Cafod Group

Objectives

The Sacred Heart Church has a lively CAFOD Group, with similar objectives to CAFOD itself, specifically:

- to raise money for the implementation of development projects in the Third World and for emergency relief in disaster situations, and

- to campaign for improvements in the socio-economic conditions of people in Third World countries, by way of reducing injustices and promoting fair trading arrangements.

The CAFOD Group raises most of its money for CAFOD through social functions, such as Lent and Advent lunches, evening lectures, curry evenings and bridge afternoons.

Another intended benefit arising from the Group’s activities is the furtherance of community spirit within the Parish.

Meetings

The CAFOD Group meets every six weeks or so, depending on the planning needs of forthcoming events. It meets in the Parish Room or in the home of one of its members.

Representatives from CAFOD Groups in all the parishes in the Deanery meet every six months to feed back to each other and to arrange joint activities. A representative from CAFOD Arundel & Brighton, based in Wonersh, Surrey, also attends to give up-to-date information on CAFOD’s activities and to provide co-ordination between the parishes.
